Charlton House Makes it a PAMMS ‘Excellent’ Hat-trick for 2026!
What an extraordinary year it is turning out to be for Cascade! Following the recent "Excellent" ratings awarded to Bonetti House and Peters House, we are thrilled to announce that Charlton House has completed the hat-trick by securing an Excellent overall rating in its latest PAMMS inspection on 22 July 2026!
To achieve back-to-back "Excellent" outcomes across three of our services in a single year is a rare achievement in complex learning disability and autism care, showcasing the consistent and high standard our teams deliver every day.
A Double Celebration: 10 Years of Charlton House!
The timing of this fantastic news could not have been more special. Charlton House recently celebrated its 10-year opening anniversary, marking a decade of providing compassionate, empowering care.
To mark the milestone, the home hosted an anniversary party, bringing together residents from all Cascade homes, staff, and parents. It was a joyful occasion filled with laughter, great food, and shared memories, perfectly showcasing the close-knit, family culture that defines Cascade. In fact, one resident spent the week leading up to the party practicing baking a chocolate cake with support workers, adding a wonderfully personal touch to the celebrations!
Standout Praise from the PAMMS Auditor
The inspection report praised Charlton House across every area, highlighting how deeply personalised and respectful the care is. Healthwatch Norfolk also visited the home recently, concluding in their feedback that Charlton House is "an example of best practice in residential care for people with learning disabilities or autistic people."
Here are a few highlights from the auditor's findings:
Uniquely Personalised Living Spaces: Care plans reflect each person's exact passions and life history. One resident who loves cruise ships was supported to transform their bedroom into a "cruise ship suite," complete with anti-glare window tinting, a wall speaker playing background engine sounds, and a printed bar menu from the world's largest cruise ship!
A Journey to Independence: The auditor noted how staff actively promote life skills and long-term independence. One resident, who moved into Charlton House from hospital nine years ago, was recently supported by the team to successfully transition into independent supported living.
Empowering Choice and Voice: When residents felt the pictorial dining menu was no longer needed, staff immediately supported them to switch to a written menu. Residents are also actively involved in recruiting new staff, leading candidate tours and asking interview questions.
Lifelong Learning and Outings: From attending college courses to participating in farm placements walking donkeys, swimming, and even planning a trip to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United, activities are shaped entirely around what brings each resident joy.
“I Can Honestly Say He Has Never Been Happier.”
The feedback from families in the report was deeply moving. Parents praised the staff for their compassion, transparency, and respect, with one parent sharing:
"Staff are kind and compassionate, they respect his privacy... My son had trust issues from a previous placement, I can honestly say he has never been happier. As a parent, I really can't ask for more."
Another family member added:
"Family are made to feel incredibly welcome; nothing is too much trouble when visiting... They invite us to family events, they hold family days. I could turn up unannounced and there wouldn't be a problem."
Reaching a 10-year anniversary is a wonderful milestone, but achieving a hat-trick of "Excellent" PAMMS ratings alongside it makes 2026 a year we will never forget. A huge congratulations to the managers, staff, residents, and families of Charlton House for a decade of excellence!
