Overview
Job Title: Deputy Manager
Reports to: Registered Manager and Group Homes Manager
Location: Felix House, Hull. Although, you may be required to travel to other locations within Cascade with appropriate notice.
Working Hours: 40 hours over a 5 day period, as agreed with by the manager.
Salary: £34,500pa
As a Deputy Manager:
You are required to ensure the promotion and provision of the highest standard of care is always delivered to our residents, maximising the individual's potential and promoting recovery and independence. Working alongside the Registered Manager to ensure that the home is fully compliant and promote a caring and effective workplace.
For a Deputy Manager, being a positive role model is required to ensure the Cascade Ethos is delivered consistently within the home and across the company.
To support the Registered Manager in ensuring a high quality service is delivered and maintained effectively in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.
The work in accordance with Cascades own care standards and ethos, applying them to your own working practice and support colleagues to apply them to their own practice.
To support all employees to have the skills, knowledge and ability to undertake their roles.
Responsibility for organising staff rotas as advised by the Registered Manager.
Ensuring that staff understand and are fully aware of the daily routines of the home.
Work within organisational policy and procedure established in the home.
Ensure that all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities in relation to Ofsted regulations, the Children’s Home Regulations (England) 2015, and the Health and Social Care Act (2008).
Ensure that all staff are made aware of the Therapeutic community strategies to work with vulnerable young people and adults in our care.
Ensure that residents’s reviews and meetings are delivered within the required time scales.
Ensure both local authority and internal care and placement plans are in place and that staff fully understand their role.
Chair, or participate in meetings and reviews, as and when required.
Ensure that the standards expected in the delivery of care are upheld and the standing of the organisation is maintained.
Take the lead in ensuring an open culture is created, one in which our residents can complain and that they are listened to.
Ensure that all staff work within a non-discriminatory environment.
Assist the Registered Manager in the administration of financial related issues.
Undertake and participate in any training programmes which are relevant to the employment of staff working in social care services, paying particular regard to residential care.
Deputise in the absence of the manager and cover for team leaders where necessary.
Ensure staff fully understand the role of a key worker and make sure the systems are in place for the delivery of this practice.
Promote and actively encourage the professional development of staff.
Ensure that all administrative requirements of the home are maintained in such a way that they are compliant with good childcare practice, homes procedures, Company policies and statutory regulations.
Ensure staff are aware of and deliver the support required to ensure the life chance opportunities of the residents for their social, educational, leisure, emotional, physical, and cultural needs are met.
Produce, coordinate and edit reports.
To contribute to the on-call system.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people and adults.
Be involved in the staff safer recruitment process.
Main Duties (not in any order of priority)
Working within the organisation:
Assisting the Registered Managers in ensuring excellent standards of person-centred, holistic care are delivered by staff
Support and assist the Registered Managers, and deputise during their absence in ensuring the home is functioning effectively and safely
Manage the home in accordance with standards agreed with the Group and Registered Managers, legislative requirements, relevant regulations and in line with accepted best practice and within financial plans agreed.
Assisting children and young people where support is required, following and updating support plans and risk assessments
Encouraging children and young people to participate in; educational sessions, physical activities, group activities and activities of daily living.
Documenting and evidencing care by completing care plans, risk assessments, STAR reviews, PBSP and reviews.
Work collaboratively with group roles to deliver health and well-being and educational programmes within the home.
Linking between the home and the school education team.
Work in cooperation with other team members and wider multidisciplinary team to maximise opportunity for each child/young persons therapeutic care
Ensure open and clear communication at all times with family members and carers, providing updates as required
Support in recruitment and induction of new staff
Active involvement in the implementation and design of Cascades quality assurance programme
Report any incidents of abuse, mistreatment or non compliance within the home to the Registered Managers and implement any outcomes from investigations
Implement policy on ordering, administration, storage and destruction of medication.
Audit checks on MAR sheets and evidence spot checks
Take joint responsibility for the promotion and management of employees training. Including; Care certificate, NVQ’s, e-learning, ensuring that all policies and procedures are read and understood and role specific training
Work with the Registered Managers to produce effective and efficient rota planning
Maintain good working relationships with staff and promote effective resolution of team conflicts
Ensuring regular supervision sessions and appraisals are completed
Maintain own care and management skills and undertake additional training as required
Take lead for the day-to-day management of care in accordance with policy and procedure
Joint responsibility for reception and initial investigation of complaints and recording their progress
Ensure that children and young people's rights are protected
Encourage innovative methods for the delivery of care and health promotion
Positively promote Cascade through personal conduct both within and outside working hours
Provide on-call support as part of rota.
Experience
2 years senior experience within Health and Social Care (Essential).
Sound knowledge of governing legislation, procedures and best practice for social care (Essential).
Experience working with complex residents (essential)
Experience of working with young people with SEMH (desirable)
Skills required
Able to manage own time and management tasks effectively to meet goals (Essential).
Creating staff rotas (Essential).
Monitoring staff holidays and sickness (Essential).
Assisting the Registered Managers in HR administration tasks (Essential).
Qualifications required
NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care (Adult).
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care (Not essential but must be willing to undertake).
